TrackMeNot - a Commons Tragedy?

http://mrl.nyu.edu/~dhowe/trackmenot/

Creates many randomized search queries to hide real queries, helping to ensure privacy against datamining. Good goal. Always ask - what if everyone did it?

Swamped query engines. Caches polluted with noise docs. "Popular queries" algorithms that try to smarten the internet are foiled. Yikes!

It's a serious privacy concern, but this attack on the problem looks scaly-scary to me. Better to just access the search service through some anonymizing function, such as Tor (http://tor.eff.org).
